AIHA joins OSHA's Ambassador Program

The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA®) announced today that it has joined the Ambassador Program of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

The program builds upon OSHA’s Alliance Program and will be used to improve workplace health and safety by sharing information and guidance and providing access to vital training resources.

Get ready for the 2020 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction

Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for 320 of the 1,008 construction fatalities recorded in 2018 (BLS data). Those deaths were preventable. The National Safety Stand-Down is an effort to raise fall hazard awareness across the country and prevent fall fatalities and injuries.

New NSC report shares how existing technologies can save employee lives

The National Safety Council (NSC) released its first Work to Zero research report, Safety Technology 2020: Mapping Technology Solutions for Reducing Serious Injuries and Fatalities in the Workplace. With workplace deaths in the U.S. on the rise, this new report indicates employers may not be doing enough to protect their workforce.

NIOSH develops agenda for healthy work design and well-being

It started with a series of conference calls and emails, which led to a draft list of relevant topics. That list was then refined and grouped into seven broad objectives, and working subgroups were formed for each of those objectives.
The result? The Healthy Work Design and Well-Being (HWD) Agenda, released last month by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).

Asking questions leads to improved worker performance

We had just witnessed a large toolbox talk at a mining construction site in Africa. It wasn’t a bad session; the safety officers were loud and lively in their statements, there was some humor and even the safety manager from the general contractor stepped in to say a couple words.
